Rest, Reset, Rise: Living a Fruitful Life
We have been sold lies about what it means to succeed.
It says:
- That the more you hustle, the more you have.
- That you rest only when the job is done then it is your reward.
- That your worth is directly tied to your output.
- That busy means important and stillness means falling behind.
And so we run, we grind, we hustle, push through exhaustion as though our bodies are machines. We achieve things and then immediately move on to the next thing.
The hustle culture doesn’t teach us that the most fruitful things in nature work at planting, watering the roots so it goes deep then in the right season they flourish without straining.
Rest has been so thoroughly villainised in productivity that many of us have to unlearn the guilt that comes with it before we can actually benefit from it.
Real rest is not just sleep (though sleep matters), it is any activity that genuinely restores you, refills your emotional, mental, creative, and spiritual tank.
It might be time alone in nature, time spent laughing with friends.
When you’re constantly depleted, you’re operating at a fraction of your capacity. You’re making decisions from a place of scarcity and exhaustion. You’re surviving, not thriving.
Reset
Between rest and rising, there’s a middle step; the reset.
Resetting means taking an honest look at what’s in your life that isn’t serving your growth and clearing it. It’s about asking big questions like:
- What habits am I carrying that are keeping me stagnant?
- What relationships are consistently draining me without replenishing?
- What thought patterns am I running that undermine my own potential?
- What commitments am I honoring out of obligation that I could honestly release?
A reset is uncomfortable because it often requires letting go of things that feel familiar or safe.
- The job that pays but is slowly killing your spirit.
- The friendship that’s really a one-way street.
- The version of yourself you’ve outgrown but haven’t fully buried yet.
You can’t pour into a cracked cup. Resetting means identifying the cracks and deciding which ones need to be repaired and which cups need to be replaced entirely.
Rise
Rising means intentionally moving forward in a way that’s aligned with your values, your season, your God-given purpose.
Practically, it looks like:
One clear goal per season: Focus on what matters most right now.
Consistency over intensity: Showing up in small, regular ways builds more than occasional sprints followed by burnout. Five minutes every day beats five hours once a month.
Celebrating progress: If you only feel good when you hit the final destination, you’ll spend most of your life dissatisfied. The person who celebrates the small wins builds the emotional fuel to keep going.
Rising with others: Sustainable growth rarely happens in isolation. Find your people, the ones who want to see you win and will tell you the truth when you’re off course.
Fruitful
Fruitfulness is the outcome of a life built on the right foundation. It’s not forced, not rushed. It’s the natural overflow of being well-rooted.
So what does a fruitful life actually look like for you?
Maybe it’s a:
- Peaceful home
- Business that gives you freedom
- Deep, honest friendships.
- Body that’s well-cared for, mind that’s free.
- Time that belongs to you.
Write it down. Get specific. Because you can’t grow toward a vision you haven’t defined.
